Join us for a 4-day kayaking tour of Heather Bay, Columbia Bay, the Columbia Glacier, and Glacier Island. Paddle among icebergs, visit the Bull Head sea lion haul-out, and explore peaceful bays. This popular trip welcomes adventurers of all skill levels. Experience the beauty of Prince William Sound's shores and marine life while navigating the stunning floating ice of the Columbia Glacier.
Day 1: Meet in Valdez at our shop for a safety briefing and orientation. We’ll board a water taxi for a scenic cruise to Heather Bay, accessing the Columbia Glacier—the largest tidewater glacier in Prince William Sound. After exploring towering icebergs and a secluded moraine, we'll camp in Heather or Columbia Bay and enjoy camp cuisine prepared by our guides.
Day 2: We’ll explore the upper reaches of Columbia Bay, aiming for the amphitheater where the glacier meets the sea. Discover the wild coastline and, with luck, witness transient orcas hunting seals. We’ll camp again, enjoying another tasty meal prepared by our guide.
Day 3: After breakfast, we may hike before heading to Glacier Island, looking for marine mammals like harbor seals and humpback whales. The north side of the island offers beautiful bays, hikes, and views of Naked Island and, on clear days, Montague Island. Our guides will prepare another delicious meal before we rest for the night.
Day 4: Weather permitting, we’ll set out early to Bull Head, home to a colony of Steller Sea Lions. While learning about these fascinating creatures, we’ll also watch for puffins and cormorants. After lunch and a hike through the rainforest, we’ll explore Chamberlain Bay before our water taxi returns us to Valdez.
